the first raindrop of the year
had hoped to hit the ground
instead it graced a leaf and bounced
back up into a million and to
whet the lips of an eager season

one day we should all go down
and feed the barnacles
the gulls and the breeze have enough
light and spray to sing on
that the tidepools reflect their joy
through ripples and whelks
upward into a stony eye.

at night the daffodils sleep
and the oaks keep watch
at dawn they switch
until the dandelions are ready
to take over for summer.
"look out!"
a burning opportunity.
